Thursday October 8th is World Sight Day – there are a number of ways practitioners can support this fantastic cause and help raise your profile in your local community. Supporting Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) and World Sight Day can give you a nice way to generate some good PR for your practice in the local community.

Set a Challenge target for October (say £250) to raise or donate funds:

• by asking patients to donate at least £1 on top of their bill throughout October

• and/or donating your sight test fees from World Sight Day, (or any other October day)

• and plan a practice celebration on World Sight Day, 8th October

About Optometry Giving Sight

Current estimates are that 250 million people worldwide are functionally blind or visually impaired due to uncorrected refractive error. Working with an alliance of optometrists and organisations that coordinate vision care projects around the world, OGS funds the development of sustainable infrastructure via eye clinics, routine eye examinations, distribution of spectacles, training programs and clinical equipment.

Optometry Giving Sight is unique in that it is the only global initiative specifically targeting the prevention of blindness due to refractive error. It aims to bring together all people who are familiar with the value of eye examinations and the correction of sight defects and who have the knowledge and determination to deliver a solution.

The World Sight Day Challenge 09 takes place in October. Optometrists, practice staff, optical supply companies and students are invited to have fun while transforming lives through this major campaign!
